13 Questions: Abacinate

1. Describe your band in 13 words or less.
Working class, beer drinking, hard snacking, heavy, grinding, thrashing New Jersey Death Metal.

2. What are your main influences, both musically and otherwise?
There is a very wide variety of influence. We are mainly influenced by the bands that got us into metal growing up, such as Anthrax, Pantera, Slayer, Sepultura, Deicide, Cannibal Corpse, Dying Fetus, S.O.D, and Morbid Angel, just to name a few. We are not only influenced by metal bands. We are influenced by music of all genres. Everything we have going on in our lives influences our music and lyrical content. Although this band is a huge part of our lives, we try not to take ourselves too seriously. Our songs may come out being goofy, disgusting, fun, or completely unnecessary... that’s just who we are.

3. Tell us about the last record you released?
It’s called Genesis, released by Epitomite Productions. Our first full length, Ruination, was also released by Epitomite. In case you are wondering, yes Job for a Cowboy also released two albums of the same name. We put out Ruination in 2008, then JFAC released their album with the same title a year later. We thought it would be funny to return the favour by using their first album title, which is Genesis. I’m sure that we’re the only ones laughing.
We recorded it with producer Will Putney at the Machine Shop in Weehawken, NJ back in June of 2010. The sick artwork and CD layout was done by our man Tony Koehl, who we have worked with several times in the past. Genesis is full of brutal, thrash, melodic and catchy death metal. We had an amazing time working on this project, and we can’t wait for everyone to check it out.
Sadly, our vocalist for the past year, Jason Sica, passed away only a few months after completing the record. He was a good friend of ours years before joining the band. This new album is dedicated to the memory of our fallen brother.

4. When are you next out on tour?
We have no tour plans as of now. We have been on hiatus after the loss of our front man, but we plan to be back on our feet later this year. We will announce tour dates once we are ready for the road again.
We will be doing a benefit show for Jason on April 2nd in Clifton, NJ. We will have guest vocalists on stage with us performing tracks off the new album, and then we will play some old tunes with our original vocalist, Ian Neal. Once all the bands are confirmed and we have all the details worked out, we will post the info everywhere. Please come out.

5. Your home town aside, which is your favourite city to play?
I think that’s a tie between Philadelphia, PA and Akron, OH

6. If you could go out on tour with any two other bands, who would you pick?
We did a tour with Fit For An Autopsy in August, had a great time. We’d love to tour with them again. Two other bands that we would love to tour with (and hope to in the near future) would be our buddies East of the Wall and Revocation... that would be a shit-show.

7. What has been the funniest / most horrific thing that’s ever happened to you whilst on stage / tour?
I think one of the funniest or stupidest things was when Ian, our original singer, actually lost his microphone on stage in the middle of a song. How is that possible?

8. What’s the best thing about being in a band?
Being able to do what you love with dudes that you love to spend most of your time with, make fun of, and spit beer on.

9. What was the first record you ever bought?
The first record I ever owned was Dream On by Aerosmith, but the first one I ever spent money on was AC/DC Live.

10. What’s the most embarrassing CD in your collection?
I’m not sure... ‘Load’ by Metallica?

11. If you had to give up music and do a different job, what would your ideal job be?
It would be fantastic if music was my only job... but unfortunately it is not, and probably never will be. But if it was my only job and I had to give it up, I would want to make this funny cartoon that all of us have been talking about doing for years.

12. Tell us something you’ve never told anyone else in an interview.
“I like to fart in people’s faces and make them smell it.”

13. Famous last words?
In the words of almighty ManOwaR... HAIL AND KILL!
