1. Can you give us a brief intro to the band?
Battlelore were formed in 1999 in Finland. All our
songs are based on Tolkien's Middle-earth.
2. Musically, what would you say your main influences
are?
We have seven members in a band who all have quite different
kind of music tastes comparing each others so I can
only speak about my own influences.
Bands like Blind Guardian, Dissection, Bolt Thrower,
Kotiteollisuus, Burzum, Manowar, Vinterland (and many
more) have all affected to my song writing and guitar
playing and I believe that all music I like affects
to my playing in a way or another.
3. Tell us about your upcoming/present album/demo
releases?
We have just released our sixth album "Doombound"
which is a concept album and tells a story of J.R.R.
Tolkien's tragic hero Túrin Turambar. It is quite
atmospheric and melodic album and it differs a lot from
our previous release "The Last Alliance".
Doombound is recorded in Finland and mixed in Sweden
by the legendary metal-guru Dan Swanö.
4.
What are your upcoming tour plans?
Festival gigs around the Europe and maybe some touring.
There's not many confirmed shows yet, but there's a
reason why we want to keep the spring-time quite low,
because there's some "family-upgrading" coming
to the few of our band members so no time for hard touring.
First thing's first.
5. Where is your favorite city to gig, both in terms
of playing and visiting?
There's so many to mention. Helsinki is nice because
it is close enough and the venues are great. Biebob
Club in Belgium is also awesome place to play. For visiting
I'll go to the South-East Asia, but it has nothing to
do with our live shows.
6. If you could go out on tour with any band, who
would it be?
Blind Guardian and/or Summoning. Awesome bands! Although
Summoning doesn't play live, but I believe that the
question was rhetorical.
7. Have you ever suffered an onstage/tour related injury?
Nope, we've been quite lucky with that. There's been
a few close calls as Tomi has waved his sword around,
but we all have our heads still left.
8. What's the funniest thing that's ever happened
to you on tour?
There's many to mention, but maybe the one when our
bassist lost his cell phone in the middle of Wacken
Open Air's audience and a few hours later our totally
drunk sound engineer was wandering around the festival
field and found this lost phone. I think that the chance
was one from a million.
9. What are the best / worst things about being in
a band?
Touring, studio sessions, partying with friends, meeting
great people around the globe are all awesome, but then
there's always the bad sides like stress, those assholes
who just try to rip you off (luckily there's not many
of those), long travelling distances, too small budgets
for this and that etc. The usual stuff.
10. What's your personal poison of choice?
Beer and maybe some more beer. ..and one more!
11. Which band / album do you love but know you shouldn't?
Hmm.. maybe it is this old Finnish band "Dingo".
It is one of those "girls like" Glam Rock
band.
12. How much wood would a woodchuck chuck, if a wood
chuck could chuck wood?
Maybe one more beer please?!
13.
Any last words?
Thanks for the interview and keep it metal!
