1. Describe your band in 13 words or less.
Hardworking, hard-rocking, self-financed, self-managed
alt-rock power trio with attitude!
2. What are your main influences, both musically
and otherwise?
Between the 3 of us we listen to allsorts and were influenced
by allsorts, everything from Led Zep, Aerosmith, The
Pixies, Husker Du, AC/DC, Alice in Chains, Nirvana,
Pink Floyd and more recently Alter Bridge and Them Crooked
Vultures.
3. Tell us about the last record you released?
Recorded at Mighty Atom Studios with producer Joe Gibb
(Funeral For A Friend, Jane's Addiction, Madonna) 'Secret
City' is a darkly complex album which chronicles the
human condition, tackling life's perpetual themes -
love, loss, hope and despair. It took nearly two years
to write and finish and is out on the band's own label
1000 Watt Recordings available from iTunes, Amazon,
Napster, Rhapsody, www.1000watt.com and their own website
www.davidrblack.net
4.
When are you next out on tour?
We toured the album in Europe earlier in the year and
started the UK tour beginning of September, which runs
until half way through October. Then there's a few more
dates end of this year and another smaller UK tour next
Spring.
5.
Your home town aside, which is your favourite city to
play?
We always enjoy playing in the Netherlands and Germany,
the crowds over there are very receptive and appreciative
of UK rock bands as well as the venues and staff looking
after us very well! In the UK, Newcastle is always a
blast, we've a lot of friends up there who always come
and support us, it usually ends up a messy night!
6.
If you could go out on tour with any two other bands,
who would you pick?
Them Crooked Vultures and Alter Bridge.
7.
What has been the funniest / most horrific thing thats
ever happened to you whilst on stage / tour?
We've toured and toured for the best part of 8 years
so there are a lot of hilarious and horrific things
that's happened to all 3 of us and the crew as well!
Funniest and horrific at the same time was probably
me falling backwards off a 5ft high stage during soundcheck,
all I was doing was moving one of the monitor wedges
and I effectively pushed myself backwards off the stage,
not very rock n roll and there was a whole camera crew
on that tour but not one of them caught the incident!!
Various tour injuries, Pai (drummer) slamming one of
our crew's fingers in the van which promptly locked
and no one could find the keys for ages, that wasn't
good! Breaking down on the autoban in Germany after
a tour which led to us being stranded in a strange little
town for 3 days until the insurance company could fly
us home, that was bad at the time but in hindsight the
break we ended up having was well needed!
8.
Whats the best thing about being in a band?
The artistic freedom to create something that not only
we get to appreciate but which can be appreciated by
other like-minded people! And of course the buzz of
rockin' out onstage!!
9.
What was the first record you ever bought?
Meatloaf 'Bat Out Of Hell'!
10.
Whats the most embarrassing CD in your collection?
Can't think off the top of my head what it could be
will
investigate now
.oh dear its gotta be Alisha's
Attic 'Alisha Rules the World' album! Eek!
11.
If you had to give up music and do a different job,
what would your ideal job be?
Merchandising for bands or something else related to
the music industry but maybe also something that involves
looking after dogs!!
12.
Tell us something youve never told anyone else
in an interview.
I've always hated our band name because people assume
on first reaction that it is a soloist and it's not!
There I said it!
13. Famous last words?
Better to die trying to do something you love, than
try to love doing something that'll be the death of
you
.Yeah
that's what I said! Think about
it! :P
