13 Questions: Mind Museum

1. Describe your band in 13 words or less.
Loud - Pop - heavy -Rock - urgent guitars - emotional wrought vocals.

2. What are your main influences, both musically and otherwise?
I like to think our music is a bit different, has a unique sound that isn't really categorised under a set genre, and is something a bit different to other bands out there at the moment and I guess a lot of this comes from the different personalities in the band. Sometimes I wonder why I am the way I am when it comes to writing and pursuing music and It's probably a lot to do with my younger years and the inspiration of my father. My earliest memories are of Leather jackets, Guitar flight cases, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin. My musical preference and opinion were forever altered by the bands, and the musical style that followed my dad. My Dad taught me how to play the guitar when I was 14 years old and I remember him telling me old tour stories about groupies, lots of drugs and booze and hanging out with Ozzy. These stories left a remarkable imprint on me and made me intrigued to follow his footsteps and I thank him for that. Bringing it back to the current day and my musical influences come from a wide range of artists from The Cure, Rush, Muse to at the Drive in, Biffy Clyro and then newer bands like Twin Atlantic, Arcane Roots and Deaf Havana but as a band we tend not to think about what or who we want to sound like and just let it be a natural progression. We spend a lot of time on each song to make sure that everybody is happy with it. Our common ground is that we all listen to a lot of guitar music, heavy metal and pop songs. Basically anything that's kind of catchy whether it's heavy or light.

3. Tell us about the last record you released?
We released our brand new mini album 'The Power Of Three' on 19 September and we believe these six tracks underline just how serious we are about we do. The record is jam-packed with riffs and hooky cuts, layered with anthemic melodies and thoughtful up-tempo arrangements. As musicians, we have grown considerably in such a short time. We've learnt to be true to ourselves; don't try to conform to a genre and to play what feels natural. We recorded the album with a guy called Kevin Peters at Anemic Studios in Bristol. On the record we wanted to showcase the different influences and styles ranging from punk, metal, rock and pop we're really happy with how it turned out and we seem to be getting some real positive press too.

4. When are you next out on tour?
The main plan is to try and get on some support/tour slots with other up and coming bands so we can let more people hear our music. We can't wait to just get out on the road properly and get this record heard by as many people as possible. Right now we don't have any solid tour dates but we will continue to play one off shows until we get offered something we feel will benefit us. Despite only forming in the latter half of 2010, it's been a busy first year for us. We have played across the UK with some great bands including Young Guns, Twin Atlantic, The King Blues and The Royal Republic. Every month that goes by we seem to be moving up the ladder step by step and building up a loyal following - We're really proud of what we've achieved so far.

5. Your home town aside, which is your favourite city to play?
London is always great. But we also find that sometimes the small back of a pub show in places like Cheltenham or Plymouth can be amazing too. I don't mind where in the country we play as long as there's a good buzzing crowd.

6. If you could go out on tour with any two other bands, who would you pick?
Rush and Muse - Let's be honest it would be incredible to see Rush and Muse perform every night.

7. What has been the funniest / most horrific thing that’s ever happened to you whilst on stage / tour?
There have been so many crazy things that have happened playing around the country but I can't pin point any particular horrific thing. Headlining the Barfly in Camden was the best… and worse! It was great because we played to a full room at a legendary venue and met some great people. But bad because we got stuck in traffic for five hours, missed our sound check and then got a parking ticket on the van while we were playing! We played a show in the valleys in Wales and someone threw a chair at me on stage while we were playing and then started a fight with the band and our crew - Luckily we jumped in the van and got out of there without anyone getting hurt and another time we had someone jump on stage while we were playing and grab the microphone off me and ask the audience if anyone was selling any weed.

8. What’s the best thing about being in a band?
Being able to inspire and motivate others through our music and being able to perform it in front of those people - To have an outlet for creative energy and emotion. Also, to be able to travel and see new places, meet new people, and have lots of great experiences from it. But remember only start a band because you love being a band and are content with playing music to nobody, any success is a bonus.

9. What was the first record you ever bought?
I think Guns N' Roses forever changed the way music could and would sound to me. One of rock's greatest bands they combined the dark and dangerous with style and glam and their debut album 'Appetite for Destruction' was stuck inside my tape player for a good while. My favourite track was Paradise City and let me tell you they don't write them like this anymore. It took arena rock to the next level.

10. What’s the most embarrassing CD in your collection?
I tend to relate lots of music to my life and music has this great power of reminding you of certain times, places and people. A lot of songs I listen to will instantly make me smile when I'm upset, or even make me cry when I'm perfectly happy, just because of memories they are associated with so in terms of CD's I'm embarrassed about I don't really have any but there are a few albums I wouldn't like to revisit again.

11. If you had to give up music and do a different job, what would your ideal job be?
I love travelling, food and being creative so it would have to be something like a Chef. But knowing my luck I'd end up being an Asda frozen food lorry driver.

12. Tell us something you’ve never told anyone else in an interview.
Our video for 'Rat Race' will be featured on Kerrang! TV in the coming weeks….

13. Famous last words?
We still feel like we are only just starting out and this is the beginning of something very exciting, our hopes for the future include playing in loads of cities across the world... to play all of the festivals - Sonisphere, Download and Reading and sell a lot of albums. We would love for the band to become self-sustaining so we could quit our 9-5 jobs. It's been a great first year, and we can't wait to see what the future has in store for us.
