1. Describe your band in 13 words or less.
A gang of outlaws bent on destroying the world.
2. What are your main influences, both musically
and otherwise?
Nifelheim, Satanism.
3. Tell us about the last record you released?
The title is Crimen Laesae Majestatis Divinae and will
be released through Metal Blade Records on the 6th of
May. It consists of 8 songs conjuring up the most ancient
of wrath. When putting it on after hearing albums like
Hell awaits or Don't break the oath, it fucking fits
right in. It's as hard, as good and just as evil as
many of the best album released in the 80's in my opinion,
with its own edge, and we're really proud of it of course.
If you can't write songs that are not on par with albums
that are already released, then what would be the point
in doing anything? Now if just every new band PLEASE
could ask themselves this question, who knows, maybe
there would be another Slayer Mag?
4.
When are you next out on tour?
Tomorrow we're starting our tour in Ireland. We'll try
to spend as much time as possible on the road this year.
5.
Your home town aside, which is your favourite city to
play?
Why should our hometown be automatically considered
one of the favorites? I guess that is because today's
scene mainly consists of bands that are friends with
each other, spending their big city nights scratching
each other's backs? That is not really Portrait's case
I tell you, we are loners wandering outside their barriers,
with pride. We have no hometown. I think Helsinki or
Mannheim was the most fun this far. It is refreshing
to visit cities where people aren't so fucking stiff,
and not under the influence of what is the most "correct"
way to act or the most "original" opinions
to have on things. Sweden must be the trendiest country
in the world.
6.
If you could go out on tour with any two other bands,
who would you pick?
Judas Priest and Hell.
7.
What has been the funniest / most horrific thing thats
ever happened to you whilst on stage / tour?
Having Kimmo and Hannu of Sarcofagus on stage in Helsinki
was definitely one of the funniest things, along with
meeting them both. And also having the Minotaur singer
drunk in the trunk of the car once was very funny. Most
horrific was probably being forced to change playing
time with the old farts of Zed Yago on a Spanish festival.
We had to hit the stage at four o' clock in the morning
instead of three hours earlier, or something like that.
And then the promoter ripped us off.
8.
Whats the best thing about being in a band?
Playing live, definitely. And coming up with riffs.
9.
What was the first record you ever bought?
It was some kind of "Metal" collection 3-CD
with UFO, Angel Witch, Uriah Heep, Venom, Motörhead
etc. Before that I only had a Metallica album that I
got from my sister I think.
10.
Whats the most embarrassing CD in your collection?
Don't really have anything embarrassing, but the worst
ones to listen to are probably some Euro Records CD's
I only keep because of the Mercy relevancy.
11.
If you had to give up music and do a different job,
what would your ideal job be?
I think I could live with making meatballs and preparing
Egyptian feasts at Ramses Catering.
12.
Tell us something youve never told anyone else
in an interview.
Whitesnakes 1987 album is not that bad after all.
13. Famous last words?
2011 is set to be the year of our long -awaited final
conquering. The year of separation and of ascension.
The ground will be shaking as the earth is quaking.
Join our rise or suffer your fall, for there will be
no in-between.
