1. What inspired you to write your style of music?
It's mainly inspiration from bands I think, Metallica
were the first band that really got me into Metal and
I started at a late age.I probably didn't listen to
any metal until I was about 14. Then my taste in music
progressed to more melodic death metal, bands such as
Arch Enemy, In Flames, Children of Bodom etc. This is
the type of music I still listen too and kind of the
same vein as Anterior. I couldn't be in a band where
I didn't enjoy the music I played and to write good
music you have to feel passionate about it. We never
set an agenda for how we should sound though it's just
what comes out naturally. We write what sounds good
to us.
2. How do you feel when you think of how far you
have come in the world of music?
I think we've done well to get this far, it's very difficult
to break through when you're from a very small town
like we were. There's very few opportunities for playing
with big bands or to get noticed compared to somewhere
like London. We always believed in ourselves and worked
very hard to get where we have. But there's still a
very long way to go and we're still working hard and
grafting to get where we want to be ultimately.
3. How are you feeling knowing you are going to be
playing with Sylosis and Malefice later this year?
We've played with both bands before and actually know
all the guys very well so it's definitely going to be
a great time, lot's of drinking and partying probably.
Last time we went out with Sylosis there were a lot
of guys coming to check us out and I think we gained
a lot of fans. We're quite similar in style so we probably
have a lot of the same fans, and the same goes for the
Malefice boys I think. It's going to be an amazing tour
and it's a great package to promote british metal, it's
a shame we're not going to Europe too. Who knows though
maybe sometime next year.
4. You had a new album come out this year! What were
your inspirations for both the lyrics, and the sound
of Echoes Of The Fallen?
Sound wise we really wanted to sound like a big established
band. Not too many triggers and a more natural drum
sound. We wanted people to listen to the album and imagine
us playing all in a big room together. A lot of emphasis
was put on keeping a groove to the album and not playing
things too tight. The black album was actually mentioned
quite a few times during the sessions. Writing wise
we always use the same theory really if it sounds good
it makes the album there was no agenda set for being
heavier or anything. Lyrically we worked much harder
this time and put a great deal of thought into writing
about important subjects. Subjects that anyone listening
to the album could relate to. Things like seizing your
dreams, killing for religion, racism. I'm really happy
with the way it's come out though, I think it's a really
strong second album and theres a lot of catchy moments
and hooks throughout the album. And Producer Scott Atkins
done a great job.
5. For the title track Echoes Of The Fallen,
you used symphonic and orchestral elements in the song.
What made you decide to use these more melodic sounds?
We've always been into big epic sounding tracks and
there's nothing more epic than strings. I think it gives
you a bit of breathing room in the album too, thats
why we wanted it roughly in the middle of the album.
To give people a break from the metal onslaught :)
6. You recently played Sonisphere this year! How
did you feel playing at such a big festival? Did the
crowd give the reaction you thought they would?
It went really well we had a great crowd and reception.
We played bloodstock a few years ago and that was good
but Sonisphere is a much bigger festival. Its always
hard doing festival's because it's a bit of a gamble
as to who's on the same time as you, this time it was
Limp Bizkit. And because we were on about 7:30 we were
always going to be up against a big band. But thankfully
a lot of people came out to watch us and we're really
grateful for all the support we received and we had
an amazing time!
7. Have you got any plans for future tours or festivals?
Which bands would you like to play with on tour and
why?
Well we're doing the Sylosis tour in Sep/Oct and there
may be something in the works for Nov but there's nothing
confirmed yet. Obviously we're raring to go and want
to be playing as much as possible in support of this
album. Metallica would be the ultimate band for me,
realistically though someone like Arch Enemy or In Flames
would do us the world of good and I think we'd really
appeal to the same type of fans. Plus I'm a big fan
of both those bands so yeah that would be cool.
8. How would you describe your band ( in 5 words)
to people who havent heard your music before?
Really Fucking Shredtastic Heavy Metal!!!!!
