Gig Review: Sylosis - Leeds Cockpit

By Chloe Headlong

The first band to play were Chapters [7]. They were quick to get going with catchy riffs that make you want to move. There were some great soloing and BRILLIANT, complicated sweep picking from guitarist Máté Bodor. The BPM from the drummer was incredible and all the musicians were very talented! This band were a great start to a brilliant night ahead and they definitely set the bar high for the other bands.

Band number two to play was Anterior [8]. They had a good opening with heavy guitar riffs and powerful vocals. Later on in the set, the technical element of Anterior's music came through with complicated riffs and great tapping. The mixture of simple and technical riffs was very effective and every song played showed a different skill that this band is capable of. By the end of their set, I was shocked. Such a brilliant band live which got the audience fired up for the other bands that were yet to play.

The next band to play were Malefice [10]. Where do I start with these bad boys?! ASTONASHING performance from the guys, every song played perfectly. I have no bad things to say about this band. They have amazingly catchy songs which got the audience moving and singing along! Along with their awesome music, you also get some of the nicest guys you will ever meet! Nice lads to be around which always enhances the enjoyment of a gig! This band definitely didn't disappoint. I couldn't see one person in the crowd that didn't enjoy this band. They were mosh pitting, headbanging and just enjoying themselves!

Sylosis [10] were on fire! Playing song after song of brilliance that the crowd reacted to amazingly! This bunch of talented musicians definitely had the crowd mesmerized, especially when lead vocalist/ guitarist Josh Middleton got going with his jaw dropping, technical sweep picking. This band excelled with their fast, complicated riffs and drum fills. Rob Callard must be envied by so many drummers! The songs played were from both " Edge Of The Earth " and " Conclusion Of An Age " which gave a good mix of Sylosis's old and new sounds. Songs played were, thrash, death and had elements of progressive which made every song sound unique! Towards the end of the set, most of the crowd joined in a massive wall of death which, to me showed that they enjoyed their night! Love these guys, love their music. I definitely recommend seeing all these bands live! They excelled what I thought was possible. AMAZING night, AMAZING people, what else could you ask for!
