In
late 2008 Metalheadz founder Pete Bailey started hosting
his own rock & metal radio show on Calon 105FM,
playing mostly mainstream metal such as Iron Maiden,
Guns N' Roses, Metallica, Rammstein, Trivium, Emperor
and more.
Soon
after Pete was joined by local promoter Ian Shaw,
who wanted to use the show as a platform to help boost
the local metal scene in Wrexham and thus the "Metalheadz"
show was born in January 2009. Pete and Ian co-hosted
the show together for roughly 6 months focusing on
promoting the best new heavy metal bands whilst throwing
in a few classics as well. They also interviewed bands
such as: Hammerfall, In This Moment, God Forbid, Evile
as well as many others.
Ian
left the show to concentrate on his booking agency
and has brought to Wrexham the likes of Evile, Paradise
Lost, Decapitated, Finntroll and Alestorm as well
as bringing the Metal Hammer & Scuzz sponsored
club night Redeemer to Wrexham's Central Station club.
After
Ian's departure Pete still really enjoyed running
the show and carried on solo, interviewing bands at:
Download Festival, Sonisphere, Bloodstock, Metal Hammer
Awards, Kerrang Awards and more. Artists interviewed
have included: Iron Maiden, Slipknot, Linkin Park,
Lamb of God, Machine Head, Opeth, Dragonforce, Killswitch
Engage, Cradle of Filth, Steel Panther as well as
many more!
At
the end of 2009 The Metalheadz launched their official
website, as designed and maintained by Tom Fownes,
as a platform to offer fans even more than just the
radio show, thus themetalheadz.com was born. The site
has since undergone several style changes, with the
latest version launching on January 1st 2011.
The
Metalheadz aims for the New Year include carrying
on with all the good work done during the last two
years, whilst striving to bring the fans even closer
to the music. We will be looking to add new contributors
to the Metalheadz fold and bring more content to our
readers.
Well
that pretty much brings us up to date, so make sure
you tune into Metalheadz every Tuesday 10PM-12AM at
www.calonfm.com
and remember to come back to www.themetalheadz.com
for regular updates!
Keep
it heavy, Metalheadz!
